Pre & Post Care

Before Your Appointment

To get the best results and ensure your comfort during treatment, please follow these guidelines before your appointment:

1. Let the Hair Grow (Just a Bit!)

  • Let the hair grow for 2–5 days before your appointment.

  • The hairs need to be long enough to grasp with tweezers, but not too long.

2. Do Not Remove Hair from the Root

  • Avoid tweezing, waxing, sugaring, or threading before your appointment.

  • Electrolysis works by inserting a filament into the hair follicle and targeting the root. If the hair is pulled out, there’s nothing for us to treat.

  • Regular root-pulling can also distort follicles, making them harder to treat over time.

3. Stay Hydrated

  • Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your appointment.

  • Hydrated skin and follicles respond better to treatment, and dehydration can increase discomfort.

4. Numbing (Optional)

  • You may apply a numbing cream to the treatment area about 1 hour before your appointment.

  • Brands like Zensa, EMLA, or Dr. Numb are commonly used and available at pharmacies or online.

  • Be sure to follow the product instructions for safe application.

5. Pain Relief (Optional)

  • You can take Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Advil (ibuprofen) 30 minutes before your session if needed.

  • Tylenol is generally gentler on the stomach. Avoid ibuprofen if you’re sensitive to anti-inflammatories or prone to bruising.

  • Always follow dosage instructions and consult your pharmacist if unsure.

Additional Tips:

  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol before your session - they can increase sensitivity.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the treatment area.

After Your Appointment

Proper aftercare is essential to keep your skin healthy, reduce irritation, and ensure the best possible results from your electrolysis treatment. Please follow the guidelines below:

What to Expect

  • The treated area may be red, slightly swollen, or sensitive for 24-48 hours.

  • You may also experience tiny whiteheads, pinpoint scabs, or small bumps. This is a normal part of the healing process. Do not pick, scratch, or pop them.

  • Reactions may vary depending on the treatment area and your individual skin type.

How to Care for the Treated Area

  • Do not touch, scratch, or pick at the area.

  • Apply aloe vera gel, alcohol-free witch hazel, or a cold compress as needed to soothe the skin.

  • Keep the area clean by washing gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.

For the First 24-48 Hours, Please Avoid:

  • Makeup, deodorant, scented products, or active ingredients (e.g., retinoids, AHAs/BHAs) on the treated area

  • Tanning, sunbathing, or direct sun exposure

  • Hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise (sweating increases the risk of irritation and infection)

  • Tight or abrasive clothing over the treated area

Sun Protection

  • Sun exposure can lead to darkening (hyperpigmentation), especially for deeper skin tones.

  • Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) on exposed treated areas.

Hair Removal Between Appointments

  • Do not tweeze, wax, sugar, or thread between sessions. This disrupts your treatment progress.

  • Shaving or trimming is allowed if desired.
