Electrolysis
What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only safe, medically approved, permanent form of hair removal. It has been trusted for over 100 years. Unlike temporary solutions like shaving, waxing, or laser treatments, electrolysis targets the hair follicle directly to prevent regrowth, permanently.
How it Works
Electrolysis uses a single-use wire filament inserted into each hair follicle. A small amount of electrical current is delivered to destroy the hair growth cells at the root. Once treated, the follicle loses its ability to produce hair, resulting in smooth, hair-free skin.
Electrolysis is effective on all skin tones and hair types, including fine or light-coloured hair that laser treatments may miss.
The Three Types of Electrolysis
Galvanic - uses a direct electric current to produce a chemical reaction in the follicle. This reaction generates lye (sodium hydroxide), which destroys the hair-growing cells. It's highly effective but slower, often used for coarse or stubborn hairs.
Thermolysis - uses high-frequency alternating current to create heat in the follicle. The heat coagulates and destroys the hair root. Thermolysis is faster than galvanic but may be less effective for very coarse or deep-rooted hairs.
Blend - combines both galvanic and thermolysis methods in a single treatment. It uses the chemical destruction of galvanic and the heat of thermolysis to maximize effectiveness. The blend method is versatile and especially useful for resistant hair and varying hair types.β
The Hair Growth Cycle
Anagen Phase - The Growth Stage
This is when the hair is actively growing and still connected to the blood supply. Electrolysis is most effective during this phase, as the current can fully destroy the growth center.
Catagen Phase - The Transition Stage
The hair detaches from the blood supply and growth slows. Electrolysis can still treat hair in this stage, but with reduced effectiveness.
Telogen Phase - The Resting Stage
The hair is no longer growing and will eventually shed. Since it's not attached to the root, electrolysis is ineffective in this stage.
Because each individual hair is in itβs own growth stage, a series of treatments is necessary to catch each hair in its most vulnerable (anagen)
