Frequently Asked Questions

  • Electrolysis is the only safe, medically approved, permanent form of hair removal. During treatment, a single use wire filament is inserted into each hair follicle, which is a natural opening in the skin, and an electric current is used to destroy the hair root, preventing future growth.

  • Yes! Electrolysis is approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal. The wire filament is single use and inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle and does not pierce skin. Temporary redness, swelling, or mild skin irritation can occur, but usually dissipates quickly.

  • Electrolysis is a gradual process because each hair is treated individually, and permanent removal requires multiple sessions. Once a hair follicle is properly treated and destroyed, that specific hair will never grow back.

However, not all hairs are visible at once. Hair grows in cycles, and because of this, multiple sessions are needed to catch all hairs at the right stage of growth. The total time depends on the area being treated, the density of hair, and how your hair cycles individually. Some people see major reduction in months, while full clearance may take a year or more of regular appointments.

  • Electrolysis is permanent! Once a hair is property treated and the follicle is destroyed, it will never grow back. Some coarse hairs do require more that one treatment to fully destroy the hair follicle.

Keep in mind there are a number of dormant hair follicles that can be stimulated and grow during things like puberty, menopause, and hormonal changes. This is not regrowth - it is hair follicles you already have that have not been producing hair in the past, and therefore were not treated.

  • It's definitely uncomfortable. There are some clients who are more sensitive and have a higher degree of pain, and some who are less sensitive and feel nothing at all. You should not feel the hair being plucked out.

  • Absolutely, I love helping and treating the trans community!

  • Yes! I know this is an awkward question to ask and often hard to find the answer to, so I will make it as easy as possible - I am familiar with bottom surgery prep and what is required for hair removal prior to gender affirming surgery.

  • Yes! Women can have facial hair for a variety of reasons, hormone imbalance, menopause, PCOS, certain medications, or even genetics can cause unwanted facial hair. As a woman with PCOS myself, I know the struggle! Electrolysis is an excellent option for removing this hair.

    • People with pacemakers - the electrical current used in electrolysis may interfere with pacemakers, and therefore is not recommended.

    • People taking Accutane - should wait 6-12 months after stopping taking Accutane due to increased risk of skin damage and scarring

    • People who are pregnant - although not proven to be harmful during pregnancy, there is a slight concern the fetus can be harmed due to the electrical current. If you provide a written letter of approval from your OBGYN, you can get electrolysis while pregnant.

    • People with diabetes - as diabetes can cause poor wound healing, certain individuals with diabetes should not receive electrolysis. If you provide a written letter of approval from your doctor, you can get electrolysis while having diabetes.

  • While both laser and electrolysis offer long-term hair removal, electrolysis is the only method approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal — not just reduction.

Unlike laser, which targets pigment and is often less effective on light, grey, red, or fine hair, electrolysis works on all skin tones and all hair colours. That means no matter your unique combination of hair and skin, electrolysis can deliver reliable, lasting results.

Electrolysis treats each hair follicle individually, giving you precise, consistent results, especially in areas where laser may struggle — like the face, fingers, or hormonal hair growth.

Laser can be a great option for some and definitely has it’s place. Many people will do laser hair removal on large areas, like legs or bikini, and do electrolysis to get any leftover hair and for maintenance.

If you're looking for permanent, inclusive, and highly targeted hair removal, electrolysis is a safe and proven choice.
